Robben Island

Robben Island in Cape Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and former prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 18 years during apartheid. The island's history also includes use as a leper colony and military base. Visitors can take guided tours of the prison and island, learning about the struggles of South Africa's past and the triumphs of those who fought against oppression.
